The Basics

What is slip resistance testing?

Slip resistance testing measures the coefficient of friction of a floor surface — how much grip it provides underfoot, particularly when wet. The result is expressed as a P-rating (P1 to P5) for pendulum testing. NATA-certified reports are accepted by courts, insurers, building certifiers and government authorities across Australia.

The Standards

AS 4586 vs AS 4663

AS 4586 classifies new pedestrian surface materials — used at product-selection and construction-handover stage. AS 4663 assesses existing in-service surfaces — used for audits, maintenance and liability assessment. AS 1428.1 governs luminance contrast for accessibility.

P-Ratings: P1 to P5
